Dublin High School

Seven of our top runners traveled to the bay area for the Dublin Distance Fiesta, the largest distance-only meet in the U.S.  Nothing but 1600’s, 800’s, 3200’s, and DMR’s for 13 hours, and over 100 heats.  A distance runner’s mecca!  This meet is what the Bella Vista Bronco Distance Carnival is patterned after.

Freshman Kirsten Ransford and sophomore Brooke Giorgi raced in the 3rd fastest heat of the 1600.  Both girls ran exceptionally well, PR-ing big!  Kirsten moved her way to the front and took the lead in the final lap and surged to the finish, winning in 5:26.  Brooke was not far behind in 6th at 5:32.  One heat later, in the 2nd fastest heat was senior Avery Lambrite.  As my good friend Woody put it, “Anything you can do I can do better”, in response to Avery who also PR’d, going 5:24.  These three young ladies’ PR’s put them all in the top 8 all-time at WHS.  For the guys, sophomores Austin Vasquez and Ethan Dodge each PR’d, securing top 10 spots on the all-time WHS list.  Seniors Josh Kling and Austin Shields were seeded in the fastest heat of the day.  Austin placed 19th overall, and Josh crossed in 11th place with an equal PR of 4:27.  This mark moves Josh into 7th in the entire Sac Joaquin Section, all divisions.

In the 3200m run, Kirsten and Brooke came back and each hit a huge PR again.  Kirsten went 11:36, moving her into 5th on Whitney’s all-time list, and is only 10 seconds away from qualifying for Sacramento Meet of Champion’s prestigious Invitational Night Meet.  Brooke hit 12 minutes flat, only 3 seconds from “SMOC” Open Day Meet, and 7th on Whitney’s all-time list.  And for the guys’ 3200, Dodge and Vasquez powered their way through to new PR’s, 9:53 and 9:57, respectively, both qualifying for SMOC.
