Whitney High School

We had our first CVC League Meet, which was re-scheduled to a Monday due to weather.

1600m = For frosh soph girls, Caitlin Blythe and Sarah Davis each knocked well over 10 seconds off their previous best, showing outstanding improvement.  Grace Pierce and Jessica Becker once again worked together, each crossing in 6:03, which is what they got at the Rocklin Dual as well.  They will break that 6 minute barrier very soon!  For the boys, Brenden Jacoby outkicked the Oakmont runner to come in first.  Tyler Hawkins not only broke 5 minutes, but shattered it by clocking 4:51–very prestigious for a freshman!  And senior Josh Kling ran with several Cosumnes Oaks runners til the final lap when he put everybody away to win.

800m = Haley Bedrin came out of nowhere and PR’d by double digits, hitting an amazingly fast 2:33, which suddenly puts her at #14 on Whitney’s all-time list.  On the varsity side, Avery Lambrite ran very tough against a very talented Cosumnes Oaks line-up, not only beating out all but two of their runners for 3rd place, but hitting a lifetime PR of 2:26, solidifying her #7 spot on the all-time list.  And Austin Shields, like Kling in the mile, paced himself for a final kick to edge out a pack of Cosumnes runners and win his 800m race.

3200m = Grace Pierce churned out some hard laps for 2nd place in the frost soph race.  Tyler Hawkins also got 2nd; but just like breaking 5 in the 1600 for the first time earlier in the day, he broke 11 minutes for the first time, running 10:59.  Great day for Tyler!  For varsity, Kirsten Ransford broke up the top 6 Cosumnes runners to place 2nd.  Ethan Dodge and Austin Vasquez allowed a 7-second lead to materialize for the top 2 Cosumnes runners, then spent the next 5 laps reeling them in, finally going 1-2 in a feverish kick to the finish.  Vasquez edged the Cosumnes runner by a mere 18-hundredths of a second.
