XC Summer Camp to Sugar Pine Point State Park
XC Summer Camp to Sugar Pine Point State Park
Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park, 7360 W Lake Blvd, Tahoma, CA 96142, USA
Thanks to the efforts of the Specks and the Downings, our team group site is secure for our 2026 team camp. We are happy to announce Whitney Distance Summer Camp this year will once again be at Sugar Pine Point State Park, which is the same campground and specific group site we had in 2025. It's a little less than 2 hours to the Tahoe area. Once again, the campground we'll be at is Ed Z'Berg Sugar Pine point State Park at 7360 West Lake Blvd, Tahoma, 96142. Phone #: 530-525-7982
Turning off Highway 89 (West Lake Blvd) and into the campground, we will be in G6, which is sites 66-75.
Travel to camp to arrive on Sunday, June 21, to arrive anytime after 2pm. Students should shoot to be there by 4pm for orientation at 5pm (we know some may be arriving later for different reasons).
Plan to depart from camp on Thursday, June 25, no later than 10am to head home. Travel arrangements will follow the "meet you there" policy, meaning it is up to each runner to secure a ride there and back.
We have a group site reserved for just our team, coaches, and parents. It will be tent camping. The campground has flush toilets and pay showers (for showers, bring dollar bills to purchase shower tokens). Students should also bring sleeping bag, tooth brush, and whatever is needed for overnight. We leave tent arrangements up to the students, some will bring an individual tent or maybe for a pair, and in other cases one student may bring a big tent for 6-8 people. Temperatures there may be chilly (lows commonly in the 40's at night and early morning), so each student should be prepared with jacket, warm clothing, and warm sleeping bag. And of course have running gear for each daily run while at camp. A refillable water bottle is necessary as well. Potable (drinkable) water is available in the camp for unlimited refills. Many students will bring board games, cards, spike ball, etc, as there will be down time each day.
Any food restrictions must be communicated ASAP to camp organizers (email Coach Dodge or Jamie Hurren). Students will be assigned to "chore groups" to help out with meal prep, clean-up, and generally keeping an orderly camp.
Boosters is asking that each student bring a Costco-sized snack for the snack table.
Hammocks are allowed.
Bring your own camp chair !!!
No food in tents, or anything with fragrance. ALL food will be stored in the food lockers at the campsite. There was a MAJOR bear presence last year, and we'll expect the same for this summer camp. The best way to mitigate this issue is to consistently secure food and anything with a scent into the bear lockers. This will be emphasized early and often at camp. Students in the habit of taking a snack and leaving it half eaten will need to break that habit!
Activities for camp include daily run as well as hiking, games/activities. We will plan a day at the lake, so be prepared for water activity. We will have a certified lifeguard. Again, there will be time to relax at camp each day, and of course there will be a bit of clinical discussion each day about our sport.

Summer conditioning is optional, but highly encouraged. Communication for absences (ie, family vacation) is not required, but it is appreciated 🙂
Runners should arrive in comfortable running attire, especially including running shoes ("trainers"). A trip to Fleet Feet Roseville is highly advised to get the right shoe for your foot.
Also, bring a water bottle, a digital watch if you have one, and a towel. It is a good idea to have a cinch bag to carry these items.
